This playlist includes a variety of Scandinavian jazz songs with a bit of folk and avant pop. Although it may seem surprising, many Black American jazz musicians made Copenhagen their home in the 1960s and ‘70s. As professor Ethelene Whitmire writes in Stranger’s Guide: Scandinavia, “Copenhagen was a cosmopolitan alternative to the racism and economic problems plaguing these jazz musicians back home.”
