The Cocoa Farmers of Ghana

The International Cocoa Initiative, a charity promoting child protection in cocoa-growing regions of the world, describes cocoa farming as the backbone of Ghana’s economy. Almost a million cocoa farmers make up 60% of the west African country’s agricultural base. But the charity says many of its cocoa farming families live in poverty, earning a daily income equivalent of around 40 to 45 cents.
