We won the biggest award in journalism…again

A letter from our co-founders

Dear friends,

At last night’s National Magazine Awards, we discovered that for the second year in a row we had won the award for General Excellence in Literature, Science and Politics. As a small, women-led publication that’s only just finished our third year, this was truly an extraordinary honor. Sitting in a room filled with staff from many of the most illustrious and influential publications in the country, we felt such gratitude to everyone who has continue to cheer for us as we’ve built this very special place.

When we launched our first year of Stranger’s Guide we hoped we would become a home for place-based storytelling that would challenge stereotypes and amplify the work of writers and photographers from around the world. But it was beyond our wildest dreams that in these first three years we would receive seven National Magazine Award nominations and win three.

That we’ve been able to have this recognition is a direct reflection of our wonderful community of readers, contributors and partners. Your continued support of our approach means the world to us. We cannot thank you enough for your support and enthusiasm for the work that we do and for the many ways you continue to cheer us on.

If you haven’t already subscribed, we hope you’ll join us today, buy a collection of the guides that impressed the awards’ judges or just share this post with a friend.

We know we’re going big places and we’re always so grateful that you’re joining us on the journey.
